Accident between semi-truck and car kills Texas man

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, an East Texas man was killed in a Cass County accident involving a tractor-trailer and automobile in the early morning hours of Dec. 20. The truck accident occurred at about 3:30 a.m. on Highway 155 near County Road 1574 four miles to the west of Linden.

A driver was heading west in a 2013 Freightliner semi-truck on Highway 155 in the inside westbound lane. At the same time, another driver was heading east on Highway 155 in a 1999 Chevrolet Lumina. Officials say that the Lumina crossed the center line on a curve and into the westbound lanes of the highway. The Lumina collided with the semi-truck, killing the Lumina’s driver. At 3:47 a.m., the Lumina’s driver was pronounced dead by a Cass County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace. The driver of the semi-truck was transported to a local medical center, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released. The Lumina’s driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

When someone is suddenly killed in a car accident, the family may be facing serious emotional and financial stress. In addition to the loss of the victim’s income, the family may be faced with expensive medical and funeral costs.

A Texas personal injury attorney may be able to recover financial compensation for the heirs and family members of an accident victim. Some insurance companies may offer a low settlement or try to deny a claim. An attorney may have the experience and knowledge to negotiate with an insurance company for fair compensation. If the insurance company will not pay an adequate amount, or there are contested issues in the case, it may become necessary to litigate the case in civil court.
